COVID Case

Dear Staff and Families of Imbler High School,

Recently, we received notification that a person at Imbler High School has been diagnosed with COVID-19.  As members of the school community, we understand that this might raise concerns alongside a caring response. We are working closely with the Center for Human Development to respond to this news and protect the health of our community by temporarily closing Imbler High School to in-person instruction. There will be no classes on Monday, November 2, to allow teachers to prepare for online education. Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) will be in place on Tuesday, November 3, and Wednesday, November 4.  High school conferences will still take place Wednesday, November 4 (4 pm – 8 pm) and Thursday, November 5 (8 am – 4 pm and 6 pm – 8 pm).  Please contact the high school staff to set up a virtual meeting.

Because we are confident that there has been no exposure at the elementary level, Imbler Elementary School will remain in session next week. We feel these students must maintain their routine and attend school at this time since the infected person has not had contact with our elementary students. We also understand the challenge of working families finding daycare.

We plan to evaluate the situation at the beginning of the week to determine whether we will continue in CDL the week of November 9.

Each situation calls for different protocols. In this case, we will follow the following steps:

  1. An electrostatic disinfectant sprayer that deploys charged disinfectant particles into an area covering every surface in the space will disinfect all classrooms.

  2. We kindly ask that you limit your child's contact with other students to limit the spread of the disease.

  3. Please have your high school student check their school email on Monday, November 2 for instructions from their teachers regarding the plan for November 3 and 4.

The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by wearing face coverings, physical distancing, and practicing good health hygiene habits. Be sure to wash your hands frequently with soap and water, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid contact with people who have signs of illness. Get plenty of rest, exercise, and eat a healthy diet. Protect the community by following the Governor's safety requirements. Wearing cloth face coverings reduces the spread of the virus and helps prevent those who have the virus but do not have symptoms from passing it to others.

We will keep you updated with any new information as it comes out while meeting the requirements to honor everyone's right to privacy.

More information can be found on the Oregon Department of Education's Ready Schools, Safe Learners page,, the Oregon Health Authority's COVID-19 page or Imbler School District website. If you have any questions, please contact Angie Lakey-Campbell at the elementary office.

Sincerely,

Angie Lakey-Campbell, Superintendent/Elementary Principal
